I am curious as to wether anybody has had any success running Windows NT 4.0 inside Parallels Desktop 4. On Parallels Desktop 3 there was a comprehensive parallels tools package available with drivers for everything including video. Parallels 4 has only a video driver available for Windows NT on the parallels-tools-other.iso image, parallels tools is no longer supplied for Windows NT 4.0 .

I am able to install Windows NT 4.0 SP1 from an OEM CD-ROM, then install SP6 which should give a supported guest environment. When attempting to install the Parallels video driver the installation appears to go well but after rebooting the system Windows NT is still running with the VGA driver which cannot exceed 640x480 with 16 colours and performs slowly when some images are rendered.

I noticed that the Prlvideo.dll along with Prlvideo.sys are not copied to their correct locations, If I do this manually and re attempt to install the driver from the display control panel applet the driver seems to get registered. With this method I reboot Windows NT and when the Windows GUI shell is started the screen is simply black and I am not able to interact with the guest machine, I can reboot and select VGA Mode from NTLDR and get access to the Windows GUI and the display properties window displays the correct parallels device driver files.

Has anybody else managed to get Windows NT video drivers installed?

    Hi, 1978MiniEstateDriver,

    If you check the documentstion:

    http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v4/docs/en/Parallels_Desktop_Users_Guide/22507.htm

you will see, that current version of Parallels Desktop provides Parallels Tools for the following guest operating systems:

    * Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows Server 2008

So, Tools for NT are not available. It happens, because Parallels Tools drivers are WDM drivers (Windows Driver Model), but NT uses its own old-fashioned driver model:
