I have a 2.33ghz MacBook Pro running OS 10.4.11 and Parallels 3.0 running Vista Ultimate. I have an external hard drive that recently stopped mounting on OS 10. Trying to verify or repair it with Disk Utility gives the error "The underlying task reported failure on exit". I hadn't run Vista while also using the hard drive until recently and once it stopped mounting I tried opening it up in Windows and it works fine. It seems like having it plugged in while Windows was running changed something, though it didn't ask me to format or anything. Disk Utility says it's format is "MS-DOS File System (FAT32)" which is read/write-able by OS 10 and probably how the drive came out of the box, right? Can I fix this without wiping the drive? I really don't care if I can use it with Windows at all, I just want to use it on OS 10 like I had been without getting rid everything.
