It has been 5 ays and no one responded to my plea for help. I had hoped some Parallels engineer would give some response, since this forum is the only tech support they offer. I don't know how I made this problem start, but somehow I can not change the display to either coherence or single window mode. I can't see the parallels menu. I can't of course use the devices menu or any other settings in parallels. That means I can not connect or disconnect any usb devices, for instance. Not only that, but my Windows desktop picture now dominates my entire Mac world. How do I go back into coherence? I am running Parallels desktop 4 with the latest build - win xp. on an intel imac.
Clarification - more on the problem When I shut down windows and Parallels is still running, I can see in the view menu: Window is checked (Coherence, Full Screen, and Modality and grayed out. In the Virtual Machine menu: the Configure option appears to selectable, but nothing happens when I navigate to it. All the other items in this menu are grayed out, such as snapshot manager or "reinstall parallel tools". I can't access the "about parallels" or preferences. I can not start Parallels from the application after I have shut down Windows XP. Nothing in the File menu can be activated. I can't even quit Parallels from the file menu. I may have just fixed the problem. I used the parallels icon in the doc, where I could execute an "open" command and open up the windows.pvm . Then I could successfully configure parallels to open up in coherence next time. I still want to know why this happened. I also want to know what the Parallels moderators are doing with the many forum topics that are never answered. You would think they might see it as being in their vested interest to actually chime in when no one makes any reply.
These forums are not the preferred avenue of support, www.parallels.com has a link that says 'support'. To switch to and from full screen use alt+Enter or command+enter, like it says on the User Guide.
