I'm a satisfied user of Parallels since 2009 who is running Parallels 8.0.18608 on an iMac. Beginning yesterday, my Windows Desktop stopped "holding" its longtime appearance settings after every reboot. I reboot daily, so this is the second day this has happened. Nothing else has changed on my system: no new programs, etc. It is really annoying to have to reset ALL of my settings for the Desktop every single morning! I use the Windows Classic theme, but now it's reverting to something called My Modified Theme with settings I find intolerable. Literally everything has to be changed from icons (which really messes up my desktop) to colors - you name it.

I'm sick of this after only two days. What is going on?

This is not any kind of known buggy behaviour from Windows of Parallels that I'm aware of.

I've sent two replies which were NEVER posted. I thought I had the problem fixed when I discovered I needed to reinstall Parallels Tools. For some reason, my system routinely "loses" PTools; neither of our other two Apples running Parallels with a Windows XP guest has this problem.

The first re-boot AFTER reinstalling PTools, the desktop was fine. This morning . . . once again . . . . I had the SAME problem. What changes are the following:
    Appearance/Windows and Buttons
    Font Size
    Desktop Color.

    This is driving me nuts.

Somebody MUST have an answer to this problem?

That's not a common problem. Something in your Windows side is reverting changes made to the registry, System Restore? An overzealous Antivirus?

Specimen: I don't think it's Avast because both of my other macs have the same setup with Parallels and Avast running and their desktops remain stable. I've run scans with both anti-virus and anti-malware (regularly updated), but nothing was found. Neither of the other two machines have the problem with PTools either. I've not added any new software. I regularly backup and save the registry using two different programs (belt-and-suspenders approach), so I guess I could reinstall an old registry. I wish I had some sort of idea where to look for the problem. I do not use system restore on Windows, resorting to backups and guest clones instead.

I am really bumfuzzled by this (not to mention annoyed).
