Ethernet Controller in Device Manager has a yellow question mark, so no network connection available. Have tried uninstalling Parallels Tools from virtual machine in P5, where it worked perfectly, before installing tools in P6.

The boot flag "devices.net.force_adapter_type=rtl" from a very similar thread brings the 'net back to life.

Bug report ID 6658196 already sent.

    What is going on, please?

I have had the exact same problem, upgrading an existing Windows XP Pro VM from P5 to P6.

I was finally able to fix it myself by downloading the 'Intel(R) PRO 1000 MT Network Connection' driver from the Intel website at http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-006120.htm as this was the driver describe in http://kb.parallels.com/8978. Once I downloaded and installed that in the VM, everything started working correctly.

It appears as though Parallels spent too much time focusing on Windows 7 and forgot about the correct drivers for those of us using XP in their rush to get P6 out on the shelves.

    Thanks for the pointer!

I closed the VM down, deleted the boot flag entry from the Boot Order screen, ran the .exe file linked to, then bingo!

You're probably right about us XP users, since W7 and Ubuntu didn't cause any such problem...

    Cheers!

The thing is that type of the VirtualMachine in the config of your VM is set to "Windows: Windows 7" and in the build 11822 of PD all VMs with Win-version greater or equal to Vista are upgraded to the e1000 network adapter..

This behavior of upgrading is of course questionable

    Sorry, I mean Vista.

Agreed - but thanks to the forum there's an answer. It just meant that I spent a lot of time initially, before reverting to P5. Lulled into a false sense of security with P6 I guess! (although I didn't stay with that for long).
