xp vm on xp (or vista) host: can't see network...

I have two separate installations of parallels, on on xp running xp and one on vista running xp. On neither can I see the network.

the weird thing is that, on my xp vm, I have been issued an ip that I can successfully ping from the host, but I cannot successfully ping anything from the vm.

any ideas?

do you use bridged ethernet? Are network options in the Guest OS configured properly?
Could you please specify what Parallels Workstation build you are using?

 

version; 2204
bridged ethernet
options set to default adpter.

update the Parallels build to what? I thought that 2204 was the latest?
