Noting that my fan RPM's run high when using parallels; thought that maybe I need to configure the memory/cpu usage.

Can anyone tell me what's the optimum setting or what I should look for in the machine's performance? And/or what other configurations I should look at?

    2010 IMac 27" quad core i7, 12GB Ram.
I think I have more than enough RAM, but maybe not.

    Hi Straitsfan,
Parallels Desktop allocates a certain amount of the RAM memory available on MAC to your Virtual Machine while the rest of it is assigned to MAC OS X. It is recommended to use/ allocate RAM to the Virtual Machine as per the range recommended by Parallels Desktop application based on the resources available on the MAC.
Follow the steps as suggested at http://kb.parallels.com/113649 to know about RAM allocation and follow the steps suggested at http://kb.parallels.com/112091 to improve virtual machine performance on your Mac.

And make sure you don't go above that max recommended size or you may have to hard shutdown your mac or wait a very long time to get Parallels and OSX to respond to close.
