Hi, I am new to this forum. This is my first post. I have searched for a solution online, but can't find any useful advice.
    I have Ubuntu 14.04 (kernel 3.13.0-36-generic) installed under Parallels 10.1.3 (28868) on a MacBook Pro 17 inch, Late 2011 (2,5 GHz Intel Core i7) running Mavericks (OS X 10.9.5).
If I upgrade Ubuntu with the latest updates the screen goes black when I restart the VM. The solution appears to be to disable 3D acceleration before you upgrade. The problem is that there is no way I can boot the VM if 3D acceleration is off.
I suspected that Compiz (which I used in order to have different wallpapers on the 4 desktops in Ubuntu) was the problem and uninstalled it. That did not help. I have now brought back Compiz and old settings by reverting to the previous snapshot.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks so much in advance!
    Peter
