    Hi,

I have the same problem. I run Terminal program and type:
    Mac-Gerd:Microsoft Windows XP.pvm gerd$ cd /users/gerd/documents/parallels/Microsoft\ Windows\ XP.pvm/TOSHIBA\ MK8034GSX.hdd
    Mac-Gerd:TOSHIBA MK8034GSX.hdd gerd$ ls -latotal 104
    drwxr-xr-x@ 8 gerd gerd 272 9 Jan 22:33 .
    drwxr-xr-x@ 10 gerd gerd 340 9 Jan 22:51 ..
    -rwxr--r-- 1 gerd gerd 2024 9 Jan 15:42 DiskDescriptor.xml
    -rwxr--r-- 1 gerd gerd 2024 9 Jan 15:42 DiskDescriptor.xml.Temp

    -rwxr--r-- 1 gerd gerd 0 9 Jan 15:19 TOSHIBA MK8034GSX.hdd

I can't execute in the Terminal the following command, because there ist no file TOSHIBA\ MK8034GSX.hdd.0.{d29c5a5a-2890-40dd-bbff-46bfb46b63bb}.hds

    cd /Users/gerd/Documents/Parallels/Microsoft\ Windows\ XP.pvm/TOSHIBA\ MK8034GSX.hdd && chmod a+x /Users/gerd/hds_setNeedFix && /Users/gerd/hds_setNeedFix TOSHIBA\ MK8034GSX.hdd.0.{d29c5a5a-2890-40dd-bbff-46bfb46b63bb}.hds

What can I do to fix the problem?

    Gerd

Your VM seem to be based on Boot Camp, if it is
    Just create new VM

I create a new VM (File -> New virtual machine -> Custom -> BootCamp Partition) but I still have the error.

I guess, yes. But in any case please do backup fo your VM before apply it.

XP and Red Hat Linux - Parallels Desktop 4

    Hi,

I get this same issue in Desktop 4 for XP and Red Hat.
    * Your problem report has been sent to the Parallels Support team with id 139390.
    * Your problem report has been sent to the Parallels Support team with id 139370.

In Red Hat it is during boot and on XP after a successful login.

Would really your advice on how to resolve this using Config Editor or whatever will work....

    Thanks.

    Still got the error...

    Hi Alexander,

I downloaded the script, updated the reference for my mac and got the OK. But the error remains. Check out the screen shots for info...

I'm hoping you have some more suggestions...

    Cheers,
    Steve.

Add one more to the list...

Please post any fixes that are discovered through the support process. Some additional background for my case:

    - Error just started in the last week.
    - Copied a previous version of a PVM file from a backup that was made a week prior; previous pvm became
corrupted after abrupt mac reboot that i've never seen before.
    - Error seems to be growing more frequent.

    Some added info:

-backup pvm file initially had only 3 drive references (files that begin with {....}) in my winvista.hdd directory
-at some point a 4th drive reference was created
-started using a LEXMARK USB jump drive at the same time of the problem

    similar problem here

Parallels keeps crashing for some weird "unable to access hard drive" problem. I reported it as issue 296064.
I always have to revert back to a snapshot of several weeks old and loose installations and set ups.

    Any help much appreciated!
    Best mario

According to your mac log, you have the problem with your hard disk.

    Code:
    Sep 29 03:23:40 JBH-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Sep 29 03:23:40 JBH-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]:

When I try this, I receive the
"Sorry, can't open file "/Users/scover/Documents/Parallels/Windows XP.pvm/" due to error: 21"
Confirmed no disk errors in system console.

WHirsch, hmmm... strange log. Your disk was migrated from real PC or you installed windows in Parallels?

Ynot, yes the disk was migrated from real PC in 2007 and ever since used by any available Version of PD.
The Error Message pops up since update to PD5.

Yes that's strange (not my VM disk, but PD5)...
