Currently running build 5608 on 10.5.3. When I shut down Windows, the updates that have downloaded automatically appear to begin installation (1 of 7), but never gets past 1 before shutting down. It appears that they are not installing as this happens every time I exit Windows.

Have searched the forums and googled as well, but can't find a resolution. This is happening on two Macbook Pros in our office (same issue on both).

Do you have any antivirus installed? disable it
Did you try to install those updates manually?

I do not run virus protection and manual installation of updates fails as well.

Do you mean you downloaded update from Microsoft and it fails to install, I mean download executable from Microsoft and install

I mean that I go to update.microsoft.com and run the updates manually. it downloads them, but the actual install fails.

Not a virus - it's happening on two separate Macbook Pros - the exact some scenario. The other mac is running anti-virus and it is clean.

But thanks for taking a guess.

I am having the same problem on build 5608 on 10.5.4. Fresh install of XP SP2. I had no problem installing the SP3 update. All updates required after the SP3 install download successfully, then fail when they try to install.

    Does anyone have a solution?

I am having the same problem described above with the same build (5608) and Windows XP after installing SP3. Updates will download but will not install.

    Does anyone have a solution?

Please try to switch networking to Bridged Ethernet, and check can you install updates

Switching to Bridged Ethernet does not make a difference.

Same here. Switching to bridged ethernet didn't work.

    Do you have Kaspersky installed?

No. There was no firewall/antivirus installed at the time.

    More testing results

I've done some more testing with about 5 different machines. It seems that after SP3, Windows Update shows that new update files are downloaded and ready to install when in fact they are not. If I find each update on the microsoft website, download and install individually everything works fine.

I had the same results on all 5 machines.

I believe this is a Microsoft issue and not a Parallels issue, although I don't actually own a non-Mac machine. :)

    Hope this helps.

In test case , switching to Bridged Ethernet and removing Kaspersky helped

    Same issue here...

I can confirm I'm having the same issue with XP in build 5608, having installed SP3 yesterday. As far as I can tell it's not affected by AV or network settings.

Can we confirm whether it's a Windows issue rather than a Parallels one?

    Hi John,

For anyone who is having this problem, I can now confirm that it is a Windows issue and the solution can be found here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

I fixed it using method 1.
