OK - that's what the message says so I'm contacting you.

I just installed Parallels 4 on OS X 10.5.5 this morning. The install went fine (though I did uninstall & reinstall after I got this message the first time). Anyhow, I cannot get Parallels to start. I just get this message.

    Please help.

    Hi, Nicholai!

Could you post here output from command:
    ps aux | grep prl_

    (should be run in Terminal)

Plus could you provide us with Parallels log file (/Library/Logs/parallels.log)

You see the error: "The Parallels virtualization service is not responding. An error occurred when trying to interact with the Parallels virtualization service. Try to restart your Mac. If the problem persists, reinstall Parallels Desktop." while running VM and after you click OK Parallels Desktop stops. Or you see the error "Unable to connect to Parallels Desktop. You may experience a connection problem or your Mac may be down. Contact the Parallels support team for assistance." when starting Parallels Desktop.

Dispatcher service prl_disp_service is down. Restart your Mac or start the service:

    sudo /Library/Parallels/Parallels\ Service.app/Contents/MacOS/prl_disp_service -e --logfile /var/log/prl_disp_service_server.log --pidfile /var/run/prl_disp_service.pid &

I'm running into the same problem.

According to the logs it appears as though the networking service can't be started but there are 2 activated ethernet entries in my networking settings.

I hope these logs give you a hint as to the problem

    Hi!

Guys is there any chance that you're running firewall?
You can check it in System Preferences -> Security -> Firewall.

If so try to turn it off by selecting 'Allow all incoming connections'

Still doesn't work. Also if I try the command I get the same error and when I press ctrl-c, it says "Bus Error"...
WARNING: QApplication was not created in the main() thread.

So dispatcher wasn't started by some reasons. Please try to perform from Terminal:

    sudo launchctl start com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon

    or restart your host

The firewall is not an issue for me - my firewall is set to allow all incoming connections . I have also verified that prl_disp_service is running. NR

Sorry, my fault, wrong netstat form: "netstat -lan | grep LISTEN" would be better ;)

But nevertheless from lsof output i see necessary data. So dispatcher started and listening incoming connections. My single idea is firewall. I've already seen post from you that firewall switched off but in order to be absolutely assured in it could you please perform from terminal command:

    sudo ipfw list

    and post here output.
