Just installed Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac. I can't seem to get Explorer to connect to the internet - it doesn't seem to see the external modem connected by USB - Explorer opens to home page but is offline - won't/can't connect even if the host computer is connected to the internet through the external modem - I've looked through the manual but can't find how to fix this. Can anyone help me with this? Please and thank you!

    1. Check do you have Network Adapter connected and Enabled in VM configuration
    2. please post here
    ifconfig -a from Mac Terminal
    and
ipconfig /all from Windows command console

Open Terminal from /Applications/Utility - Mac OS
Start - Run - type in cmd, click Enter - Windows Command console

    Better to select Shared Networking

Not sure if you got my reply to your last message:
    Terminal - Mac

Last login: Sun Dec 28 13:31:01 on console
    ip-66-159-124-67:~ jimparrott$

    Windows Command console

I typed in ipconfig /all - space between g and / - terminal appeared briefly - empty and then disappeared
with no space I got an error message - Windows cannot find "ipconfig/all". Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.

I hope this helps - why is it not automatically making the connections? I've searched the manual and can't find out anything to change.

    Thanks for your help

    Jim

    in Mac OS type in
    ifconfig -a

    In Windows
do not type ipconfig /all in Run window, type cmd
    in new black window type
    ipconfig /all
    with space in between words

It seems that either Network adapter is disabled in Device Manager, or it is not connected to Virtual machine

Still not able to get Explore to connect but the Parallels Internet Security is able to connect and download updates - strange unless it's working through the Mac

On a whim, I went in and removed the dialup accesses and enabled the network access - what do you know - Explorer is now working inside Window VM - many thanks - your questions and instructions were part of what lead me to do what I did.
