I'm having issues trying to install Parallels Tools on Windows 7 Ultimate. The installer hangs at 0%, whilst my cpu meter still tells me a little background activity is going on. The VM then freezes if you attempt to access windows explorer or attempt to move the installation dialog box around. After a while I get a BSOD with the stop error 0xF4. No error is reported by the Parallels Tools installer.

I've been able to successfully install Parallels Tools whilst under boot camp, but when running the vm through parallels after about 15 minutes of operation the BSOD 0xF4 returns.

Reported to the parallels team as problem id# 5895100

Thought I'd post this to get some forum opinion on the issue.

    thanks in advance

I've noticed in the event viewer that an error occurs just before the stop 0xf4. Its source is volsnap with the description 'The shadow copies of volume C: were aborted during detection'. Not quite sure if this is relevant.

I've also found the parallels setup log, which reports:

Finally after some trial and error i've discovered that the 0xf4 error was consistent whether or not Parallels Tools was installed. I think (i'm not 100%) that this was due to an installation of MacFUSE. I've uninstalled MacFUSE and the related NTFS-3G from the control panel and Parallels Tools installs successfully. Now I just need to get Windows 7 to activate.

Unfortunately the 0xf4 error is still persistant without MacFUSE installed. If the vm is left idle for long periods, the 0xf4 error appears, and when Parallels Tools is installed, the installer freezes and the stop 0xf4 error is produced. Here's the last few lines of the parallels-tools-setup.log file:

Fortunately, performing a clean install of Windows 7 through bootcamp 3.1 resolved this issue.
