Parallels Desktop 18, permanent edition. Running on 2017 MacBookPro, non-touch bar, running OS 13.7.6. VM is Mac OS running last update of Sierra.OS 12 My Canoscan 9000F was running fine forever, connected through an Anker USB3 hub, then through and ASnket USB-C hub to my laptop. Recently I had to replace that USB-C hub and now when I activate the scanner software within the VM it gives me an alert saying "Unable to connect." I've done everything I can find on the web, download new scanner driver, eliminate duplicate drivers (I think), replace software (Canon MP Navigator 3.1.5) try new cords, try hooking directly to the laptop using an adapter, nothing works. However the scanner still works fine on an older Mac laptop running High Sierra. Paralles online guidance, as always, applies to running a Windows VM, so it's no use to me. I'm sure it's just a software issue of some sort. I really don't understand the complexities of all of this. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Found a work around. Went to the Devices item in the VM top menu bar, selected USB & Bluetooth and found an item labeled CanoScan #13. When I selected that item, the scanner worked. However, every time I restarted the VM, I had to go through this procedure. Then, rooting around, I found some sort of file that revealed multiple CanoScan #xx items and eliminated them all but #13. Now everything is back to normal. MP Navigator works from the time I launch it. I can only assume that in my attempt to reload the drivers I was creating a number of duplicate items that were in conflict and by eliminating all but one it resolved the issue.
