How are you shutting down windows? If you use =>Start=>shutdown you should not get the disk scan. If you simply shut down the virtual macine, it is the emulated equivalant of just hammering off the power button or pulling the plug, and windows will do a disk check on the next reboot.

On my first boot on my Macbook, Wifi worked fine. I was surfing the itnernet wirelessly without a problem, mounting disks from other network computers, etc. Now I can't get it working again for love or money. Is there some bugginess in the ethernet support in this beta version?

I had similar issues... Solved it by going into OSX preferences, keyboard & mouse, and selecting "Use the F1-F12 function keys to control software".
