set the power options to never go into standby or hibernate. i also disable the screensaver and screen blanking in Windows. Vista by default has a pretty aggressive power-saving policy unlike XP and i suspect that's what you're running into (i did too).

if you notice vmware does the fancy effect and hides the resolution change in windows basically. the end result is a very smooth windowed<->fullscreen transition. whereas with parallels, it does the fancy animation and once the animation is gone, you're left with a stretched screen and then a...

please don't wave about some VMWare alpha that you haven't even used as an example of the technology already being here. Fusion's USB support is ok, but its far from perfect, and that's ignoring all the other problems VMWare's alpha currently has.

If VMWare has implemented USB 2.0 and the capability to burn CDs in their BATA software, then making those features work isn't THAT complicated thing to do. how on earth would you know about the internals of either product to even say something like that?? Parallels has had a pretty stable...

i can replicate the behavior you describe by installing vista on my 1.7ghz PentiumM viao and using the "Standard VGA" driver instead of the ATI driver. that leads me to believe that its due to the lack of decent graphics support in parallels or the shitty Vista VGA driver. I mean afterall...
