Running images off of USB devices

All flash media at the present, speaking in particular about the memory sticks etc., are pretty slow. For storage or read only it's not so much of a problem but trying to run a VM on one would be a real pain. Why not simply get the newer 320gb or the upcoming 500gb laptop hard drives instead...

Recovering Lost Virtual Hard Disk Space

An update to good news I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out where my disk space was vanishing! How is it that a drive with no more than 3gb of OS and files can consume a remaining 5gb, in my case a mere 8gb VM, was beyond me. Nothing, absolutely nothing showed me where it was...

    Updating Parallels

Jeepers! I couldn't resist responding to this. Now let me get this straight. You're purchasing a machine that at its base price is approximately $4,000 plus Windows Vista Ultimate... which I'll throw in as an OEM purchase, instead of full retail, for around another $200. Now thats $4,200...

    Announcement from VMWare Mac Beta

I always preferred the VPC interface over VMware. There is something to be said about its clean approach. But you could certainly mix and match a lot more with the later product when you got down to it. Still, Parallels is working very well for what it does for me and for that I'm VERY grateful.

    Windows Skype in Parallels

Are you serious? Bluetooth headsets, and I've a Plantronics unit and have done this, are iffy even using them on the fully native side much less on a VM, and to be quite honest this gets silly expecting full hardware performance out of a virtualized environment. Just get a cheap pair of wired...

    Windows 3.11 Problems

I actually got 3.11 running under VPC.... It was a hoot to see that thing fly. No practical reason, other than running some really old games, but I think I may have the file you need in order to get networking. It was a pain in the rear to find.

    Parallels 1848 vs 1884

1884 slower than 1848 Just for the hell of it I downloaded 1884 and took it for a spin. I'd have to say that saving and restoring VM's started taking at least twice and in some cases up to three times as long. To verify this I went back to 1848 and found that my times were back in the 7 to 11...

    3D video support

Gaming on intel Macs After reading up on Transgamings "Cider" product I'd expect in the future that games may well be cross platform out of the box. Its an interesting take that doesn't require a Windows partition at all. Seems more advanced than Crossover in the gaming dept., being a...

quick-pick icon in the top menu on mac

Thats a great idea. I'd second that as an "option" you could turn off or on. I'd still like to see a better virtual machine manager a-la Virtual PC with a visual metaphor where you can open, close or suspend machines and at least see their "state". Also... while we're wishing, I'd want more...

    Which antivirus for Windows?

I've been using Avast! and find it to work well. Its free to use for personal home use and its updated continuously. Though they, like AVG, would like you to upgrade to their professional version, naturally, I find its more than enough for my basic needs. Symantec products I stay as far away...

XP installation took 5 hours and counting, is this normal?

I remember when I used to use Virtual PC that they always wagged a finger when you used too much memory. Don't know if the same problems occur using Parallels but due to the nature of Windows and how it manages its page file I'd actually reduce the memory. As an example: I'm presently using a...

Shared Folders not a good solution?????

Files in the shared folder, for me at least, ended up with a file date stamp of December 31, 1969. And this was even after following advice here to uninstal and reinstal the tools. I'm going to try the networking angle and see what happens.

XP faster under parallels than bootcamp?

Let me just chime in and say that I'm so tickled at how fast this all works under OSX on a MacIntel machine that its been refreshing. I'd just about given up hope that VPC would ever announce anything so I'm really looking forward to whats in store for the future.

Bug: Right click near top left corner of guest brings up Connect/Disconnet dialog?

I reiterate... I cannot replicate problem. Exactly which XP versions are you guys running? SP1..SP2? Even under XP Pro SP2 I don't get this. Whether I test this on an iMac or MacBook this doesn't occur. I'm patched and updated to the present on all VM operating systems and host.

Bug: Right click near top left corner of guest brings up Connect/Disconnet dialog?

I've tried this out on a Guest VM using XP Home and SP2 and cannot replicate your problem.

Using Images from VPC using Acronis

You know, I was afraid that would be the case but wanted to try it out. I think VMWare had some sort of converter for VPC but don't quote me on that. *SIGH*... So I guess I'll have to create everything by hand again.

Using Images from VPC using Acronis

OK. First post for me after countless hours, cups of coffee and hair pulling. I went into my VPC7 images and created Acronis Images to later be imported into a Parallels VM. Seems that whenever they start up, be it 2000... or XP I get the BSOD. They "want" to start but as soon as the splash...
