My experience... Parallels is a disaster!

... which doesn't mean you have a functioning brain. You sound like these people who will sue a coffee shop because they don't write on the cups that coffee is hot and may burn if spilled. Consumer stupidity seems to have no limits these days!

15 hrs to compress 11GB Hard Drive

With build 3188, compressing an expanding 32Gb virtual image (actual file size 13Gb) down to the used 11Gb doesn't take more than 30 mn in the worst case here, on a 2Ghz MBP with 2Gb ram. The issue you are seeing may derive from other environmental factors, or may be due to issues in the latest...

    iDefrag dramatically improves performance

Been using iDefrag for a few months here, and it certainly helps a lot in keeping the virtual HDs contiguous for maximum performance. Even if it occasionally isn't able to fully defrag the file because of limited available disk space, it gives good indications at whether it would be interesting...

What works better for you & why: parallels using a real partition or a virtual hdd?

The way I see it, the reason Bootcamp-partition support has been implemented is because people asked for it, so as to be able to switch between Bootcamp (when 100% windows work is being done) and Parallels (when they also want to use Mac software). The primary reason to use Bootcamp is maximum...

    ActiveSync

Dunno about Vista (don't need it) but I do Windows Mobile development using Windows XP in Parallels on a MacBookPro (2Gb RAM) and it works just great. It seems some devices connect more easily than others. On older devices you may need to install a utility or tune the connection to use "serial...

What works better for you & why: parallels using a real partition or a virtual hdd?

I do software development here using VS2005 & a bunch of tools. The optimized setup I use is: - Main Windows XP image on an expanding 32Gb virtual HD (full install with tools uses around 11Gb) - Development virtual HDD separate from the Windows HDD, on a 3Gb fixed size image - An additional 1Gb...

    How about an OS Switcher?

This is one approach, but you're assuming that people are doing only one thing at a time with their computer. This is not the case for everyone. Most people who use Parallels instead of BootCamp do so because they need to use both Mac OS X and one or more other OSes at the same time.

A second XP VM keeps restarting in my back

Ouch! This sounds like it's what the problem was. I found a Windows Applications folder in my VMs folder with many duplicates, supposedly coming from the various VMs I'm using. Good catch, and thank for the hint.

A second XP VM keeps restarting in my back

This didn't work. I configured both my VMs with 512 MB and the memory limit to max (1628 MB) to no avail. I start my secondary Windows XP VM, then if I open XP's Security Center, Parallels starts my other VM as soon as I click the "Automatic Updates" item in the Securiy Center. Now what's...

A second XP VM keeps restarting in my back

Mac is a MBP CoreDuo 2.0Ghz with 2Gb RAM, reserved memory limit in //s is set to "automatic", my Windows XP VMs all have around 768Mb RAM allocated. I filed a bug report this morning, detailed config should be included.

A second XP VM keeps restarting in my back

I'm seeing a really weird issue. I have several Windows XP SP2 VMs setup. Since I installed build 3170, the "main" VM I work with most of the time keeps restarting in the background whenever I run another Windows XP VM and something triggers it to start. For example, when I log in to another XP...

I love this software so stop being a retard

I love Parallels too. These days I spend 90% of my day working in Visual Studio in coherence mode and taking advantage of the drag-and-drop features to quickly transfer files between OS X and the VM. I'm absolutely stunned by the quality and reliability of Parallels. I found a few minor...

    Active Sync Problems

I think there is a reliability issue with USB in Beta 6 (didn't try with Beta 5). I develop software for Palm & Windows Mobile and have a lot of devices here. Apparently, what happens is that even though the connection works fine and the first packets transfer properly, after a while things go...

BUG: improperly repositions VM window out of screen space

This is a bug I've not seen often in Mac software except in Macromedia stuff. Parallels seems to be "remembering" the position of the VM property page window, which is nice. Unfortunately, if you last used the VM on your second screen then disconnected the second screen, you don't have a way...
