Does the VMware beta support GPS units like the Garmin Forerunner? I'm considering switching from Parallels to VMWare given the horrible support in Parallels of my Garmine Forerunner. Basically, my Forerunner is not useable in Parallels and I have to boot into Windows using BootCamp. Doh!

I hope Parallels is making headway with giving full support to Garmin GPS products like the ForeRunner 205. These are USB devices and they don't work with Parallels but works perfectly fine with Boot Camp.

This has been a long standing Parallels problem. If you search the forum for "Garmin" you will notice that many Garmin users are having that USB problem. Parallels team has never, as far as I know, say anything about if they're working on the issue and when they project the problem will be...

I agree! I agree! i've also been thinking of moving to VMWare if Parallels does not offer full support for USB in the next couple of months. Plus, how about allowing CD and DVD burning in Parallels? Right now, the MacBook Pro's Superdrive reads as CD-ROM only. Another I/O limitation!

They'll definitely need to provide full USB support in the next release. I think they're going to lose customers if they don't soon.

The beta update so far does not work with my Garmin. I already have the Garmin USB driver installed. I plug in my Garmin Forerunner 205 and Windows acknowledges the addition of a new hardware with its beep but Garmin programmes can still not see the Garmin.

Okay...I think I can answer my own question. Apparently (and I think this is a bug), I needed to totally quit Parallels after it has done all it needs to do. Then, I re-open the application and then I'm able to start my VM.

Great...I just used the Parallels Compressor and after doing all its thing it tells me it's fine. So I started the virtual machine and what I get is a dark screen with a few lines telling me about memory usage and nothing else. What gives? How do I have it restart?

I believe this is a Parallels problem and not actually an OS X problem, so there's nothing we can do about it until the Parallels folks release an improved version.
