Windows 8 window mode scales, resulting in small icons and text

It happens again. Since the last update, I think that what triggered it, my Windows 8 scales instead of changes resolution again in window mode. The VM is still set to "Windows 7". How can I force it change resolution rather than scale?

Windows 8 window mode scales, resulting in small icons and text

I noticed that my Windows 8 VM (Boot Camp) scales when I switch the VM to window mode. It's useless that way because I cannot see much on the screen that way. How can I deactivate the scaling?

Parallels Desktop 5: Coherence and Crystal Mode

When I switch to Coherence or Crystal mode the Windows Vista task bar is displayed just above the Dock. It looks ridiculous. How can I make Parallels not display the taskbar there and why is that the default setting? (Who wants the Windows taskbar displayed just above the Dock???)

    Headless Mode?

Does Parallels 5 have a headless mode now? I mean can I start a VM and then disconnect from it and have it run in the background (and reconnect later)? I don't want to suspend or shut down VMs just because I want to log out of Mac OS or quit the Parallels GUI.

Parallels 4 Windows Vista keeps freezing and other problems (MacBook, Leopard)

I am running 32 bit Vista in Parallels Desktop 4 on my MacBook (2 GB, 320 GB, Mac OS X 10.5.7, Parallels 4.0.3844). I have two problems with the setup. Whenever the MacBook sleeps and wakes up again, the guest OS in the windows (i.e. Vista) freezes and needs a hard reboot to come back...

Parallels Desktop: Better or Worse than VMware?

I have been using VMware for a week now. I converted all relevant Parallels machines. Here's what I found: 1. VMware doesn't support OS/2. (I knew this.) 2. I can start VMware, start a VM, kill the VMware program and log out the Finder session and the VM continues running in the...

Parallels Desktop: Better or Worse than VMware?

Since I couldn't find any information about those oft-asked questions I decided to try out VMWare. I installed the demo (which is a full version working for one month) and 64 bit Vista, Office 2007, and Visual Studio 2008. Everything works. Plus Vista reboots faster than under Parallels. I...

Parallels Desktop: Better or Worse than VMware?

I am just about to switch to VMware. But before I do, I want to know if I will be missing a release with exactly the features I have been waiting for for so long. 1. Will there be a Cocoa GUI for Parallels? (I _HATE_ the current GUI.) 2. Will there be a headless mode for VMs? (I.e. can a...

What kind of user are you?

Wow. Now here's a chance to let the Parallels devs know how we use Parallels and nobody is replying???

No help from Parallels Help re. Internet Access

If you cannot access Internet Explorer, you might have changed a Windows setting to make IE inaccessible. According to your description it's simply not a Parallels issue.

    Remote Connection

I don't know which step you are missing. Did you try out all three different network settings in the VM? "Bridged Ethernet" is the one you want. What's the IP address of the VM? What happens when you ping it from the host?

No help from Parallels Help re. Internet Access

Parallels support have nothing to do with your Internet Explorer. Call Microsoft support? (Why is it "not acceptable"???)

How to make a DVD Copy on Mac OS X

Can the admins please delete the advertisement for a program unrelated to Parallels?

What kind of user are you?

Very good question! Here we go: I use Parallels on a 2.16 GHz iMac (Xerxes) and a 2 GHz MacBook (Blacky). Parallels on Xerxes runs Windows XP (for games), Windows Vista (for Visual Studio), eComStation (for some legacy apps), SuSE Linux (for compatibility testing), another instance of...

    Remote Connection

You are making this needlessly complicated. Once your VM is visible in the same network as your host, connectivity to the server applications from the Internet is the same for both.

    Remote Connection

Same answer. If you can access your physical computer, you can also access your VM running on it. That's not a Parallels-related question. Ask in a network forum? The keyword you are looking for is "NAT".

    Remote Connection

No specific network settings are needed really. Just make sure the VM is on the same network as the host, give it a fixed IP (or a name) and connect to it from another machine on the same network.

Where do you store Parallels VMs?

Where do you store Parallels VMs? I created a folder structure under /Shared and have exempted all of /Shared from TimeMachine. I have a folder /Shared/VM/username for each user to store his VMs in. Any other suggestions? (I think a default location in ~/Documents or anywhere in...
