vnc linux

I am running Linux Debian 10 in a VM on a MAC. I can't get vncserver working, and I have found an article in the knowledge database that says to use "pctl..." to enable vncserver in a parallels vm, but I am wondering if this is a Windows command since it is not available in my Linux (Debian 10)...
