    If I open PD, I get a message saying a new version (10.1.3) is available. If I click 'Install Update' the Updater window disappears, I get a beach ball for a few seconds and then PD quits. This is happens every time.

    If I skip the update and start PD, then choose 'Check for Updates' and run the updater from there, the behaviour is the same.

    What do I do now?

    Thanks in advance,
    Steve = : ^ )

    Hi Steve,
    Please follow the steps as given below to update Parallels Desktop to latest version :
    Quit Parallels Desktop.
    1. Uninstall Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac as : Click on Finder --> Applications --> Drag and drop Parallels Desktop to Trash.Also use PDremove.zip. PDremove.app as in the KB article http://kb.parallels.com/en/122653 to remove Parallels Desktop.
    2. Launch Disk Utility application located in Applications/Utilities > in Disk Utility click on Macintosh HD > click Repair Disk Permissions
    3. Restart your Mac.
    4. Download the Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac installation file from http://www.parallels.com/directdownload/pd10/ , install Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac and check how it works!

    Thanks for the reply. I have a problem in that my VMs aren't in the place that PDremove says they should be, and I'm concerned that it will delete them. I've been trying to describe this in more detail, but I get the error "English only, please", and can't figure out what the problem is.

    I'll press on: I found my VMs in the folder 'Parallels' in my (user) Library folder. This is not where PDremove says they should be, but it's where my system has put them. I'm concerned PDremove will delete this folder.

    Just copy the VMs to another place (as backup) and you are safe. I do not believe installer ever deletes VM files, but you should make backup copies routinely anyway (I make them every two weeks), in case something gets corrupted. Happens sometimes.
    You need external/internal drive formatted as Mac journaled drive (HFS journaled), which is standard OSX format. Not FAT, FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, or any other type of format. Standard MAC OSX extended (journaled) format. If you buy external drive, you need to reformat it, unless you get Mac only drive.

    Thanks. I guess my Time Machine backups should be enough, but I'll copy the entire folder to the desktop, too.

    I uninstalled PD and then installed the latest version, and everything is back to working as advertised.

    Thanks again,
