3188 very slow on Mac Pro

I'm running 6 GB MacPro/3188. Same problem as noted above -- works fine for a couple of hours, then everything on the Mac side slows down to beachballs ad infinitum. Reboot is required a few times a day.

Try this:

Hmm... Run a memtest, also, try cleaning your caches with something like Onyx.

If that doesn't work, uninstall than re-install Parallels (remember, back-up before you ever touch important files ;) ).

try 300 to 500


have you got some updating going on in the background?

It could be a simple windows problem

firwall?
virus?
ante spyware scans need to be done like any old windows machine
your VM needs good house keeping


shut down from the start menu before you shutd own the mac
what does Activity Monitor app tellyou
and

Ctrl alt delete in Windows
task Manager

mine uses 341 mb memory just now
4 oto 8% cpu in Windows XP Sp2 while I am writng this


what are you doing when it all goes slow?

I leave my Parallels (3188) running about 14-18 hours per day and have never seen this phenomena. I wonder if it's model specific?

Eh. I would say it is likely to be an issue with bad caches. I have had it before and getting everything 'nice and clean' works like a charm.
 
For all having this issue - can you please monitor your Wired and Active memory amounts when Parallels Desktop is just started and when the issue starts occurring? Simple "my Wired and Active memory is XX and YY when I just start, and it comes to AA and BB when it the problem arises" will be enough to start investigating.

Also,
1. What is the RAM amount you provide your VM with?
2. What is the Parallels Desktop->Preferences->Memory->Reserved Memory Limit option set to on your Mac?

It is amazing what cleaning out ALL caches can solve. Since ONYX is free, I see no reason for folks not to use it. It has been a life-saver for me when I thought the only way to solve certain problems was a re-install. I do this on a regular basis every Saturday jut to stay "pristine".
 
OK, I tried IceClean and Onyx, and rebooted each time. Everything cleaned up.

Same problem with 3188 with 8GB in MaProc, with 1 GB to Parallels (this doesn't affect the results, though). The same problem persists after system housekeeping.

ActivityMonitor shows 100%+ for Parallels when the system grinds to a halt. Interestingly, after Force Quit of Parallels, the next application jumps to 100%, and so on until the Mac screen goes black and reboots.

This only happens when Parallels is running. I only run Dragon Naturally Speaking and Win2vnc on WinXP side.

Maybe this "is" a model specific issue. On our iMac's and MacBook Pro's, XP under Parallels is wicked fast. I wonder if other Mac Pro users are experiencing any of this slowness???
