5608 Validation/registration woes

Purchased 3.0 Parallels and installed with Vista Ultimate. No problem.

Downloaded upgrade build 5608; seemed to go OK UNTIL it asked for my serial number to activate. Used serial number from original purchased disk. Will not activate.

What did I do wrong and is there a fix short of total reinstallation?!
