64Bit vs 32Bit Windows 7

I realise there are a few posts on this, but I haven't found any that answer my question. Most seem to recommend installing 64 bit Windows 7. My understanding was that (on a PC) 64bit was for >2Gb, 32 bit for less than 2Gb.
I have a 2Gb macbook, and was told to get 64bit, but it seems to me that as I can only allocate <1Gb to the virtual machine, the 32bit would have made more sense.
Anyone have any advice on this?

Windows 7 32-bit can address up to 3G of memory directly (even though it shows up to 4, it only uses 3 of it on most machines). Unless you are devoting more than that to the VM I would just use the 32-bit OS. I can't think of any software you wouldn't be able to run, and the performance should be slightly better for you with only 1G of memory.
