A disk read error occurred

I had parallels desktop, the latest beta version in a pause mode. When I restarted it I got the following error message, "A disk read error occurred. I was instructed to reboot, but continue to get the same error. Any ideas?
 
i'm getting a disk read error as well

I've been using build 3120 on a macbook pro for several weeks with no problem, but suddenly since yesterday I am not able to start the VM. I'm getting the same error:

"A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

When I boot off my Windows XP SP2 CD and run chkdsk on c:, I get:

"The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems."

Is there anything else I can do to recover all my data and applications?
 
Same problem

After I increased the size of my Virtual Drive, restarted my MacBook, which recommended recovering disk space, it reads "disk read error." When starting up WinXP.

I wonder if recovering disk space brings on this glitch. But now, I have to go to a backup copy again.
