accessing textfiles on the mac from winxp client

Hi -
I am running parallels on a mac pro as the host. I have installed windows xp as the client operating system, with parallels shared folders activated.

When i edit a text file under mac osx, everything is fine. However, editing the same file from within XP, that textfile appears with the linebreaks missing from the end of each line.

One solution is to run unixdos and dosunix on OSX to fix the text files, and then edit them under windows. However this is quite cumbersome especially since I have a large number of text files and have to edit them regularly using tools from both osx and winxp.

Does anyone have a solution ? e.g. is there a setting under parallels that automatically takes care of the problem? When i use winscp and pkzip, these things are automatically taken care of, so is there a way to get the parallels shared folder to add/remove linebreaks from text files automatically as needed??

Get an editor for windows that knows how to edit files in UNIX format.

Try TextPad or Emacs.

I'd like to suggest UltraEdit (www.ultraedit.com.) Several years ago when they took away our Macs at work, I did an extensive survey (via Virtual PC, of course) of freeware and shareware editors, and UltraEdit was by far the most graceful and extensive I found (if it's possible, it was the most "Mac like.") It also has sensible options for dealing with non-windows text files.

FYI, traditional Mac textfile lines end in carriage return. Unix textfile lines end in linefeed. DOS textfile lines end in carriage return + linefeed. That's why the lines look hosed.
