Accessing virtual hard drive from a network folder

Hi,
I would like to store some of my virtual machines on a windows SAMBA share and access them for my mac. I have a very high speed network. However, whenever I try to start the virtual machine, it gives the error: "unable to get geometry of virtual hard drive" etc...

Is this a known issue? I would really like to access virtual machines over the network, since that will save disk space on the laptop.

The same problem to me.
I want to share the VM image from Xsan.
I have tested via AFP and the same message (uanble to get the geometry...).
I can't test directly from Xsan because I haven't any Xserve Intel for th time....
Anyone now if there is the same trouble like via AFP or SMB ?
