- Ability to have OSX recognize VM OS executables (like exe, com files in WXP) in order to when user double clicks on such exe, com files, VM OS starts up and exe, com is executed in VM HDD image VM session. This would allow a user to insert a WXP app install disc (like Outlook install disc) and either through auto-run or simple click install the app automatically inside VM (autoplay -> dialog box "do you want to install this to VM" -> VM starts -> install routine starts

Let's see if I understand this. You are connected via wireless/wired and you suddenly want to be connected via wired/wireless. Ignoring the obvious of how you could arrive at this, you seem to have a XP problem. Can native XP do this and do you know how to do it?

We have this under ALL other OSs. Maybe you should contact the unique owner of your proprietary, non-disclosed system and ask him to make everything available to the rest of the world so that you OS can actually participate transparently with the rest of the world. You don't seem to understand that as much as windoze is closed , OSX is even more closed. How the heck do you thing that any other company can get inside of OSX and do the functionality you are requesting????

Are you talking only proprietary Mac compatible USB drives?

Does the Mac have published standards that would allow this to happen?

Do you know what the necessary parameters of this functionality are?

Is the interface between the Mac and it's video card open to any developers? Where can the Parallels developers go to find out the design of the motherboard and how it accesses the video board?

Whoa, you're projecting a lot of an extreamly proprietary in it's own box functionality across the rest of the computing world. There is no doubt that OSX does some useful things, but it does it at the cost of being contained inside a private world. Demanding this kind of functionality exposes your single focus on your existing OS. If you need these kinds of things to serve your needs - stay with Mac.

Wow, if only I could control windoze from OSX. Dream on! You are fanticicing a lot here. What has been done with controlling windoze by many different companies/open source groups is nothing short of miraculous - but no you want your Mac to do the impossible. Sorry but Billy Goat is still a lot stronger than the OSX owner - who ever he is...

Do you have reference for how to accoplish this? Is there an open access to the ability to manipulate OSX to do this?
 
1) Of course XP can do this, but in Parallels, there is only one virtual network adapter and for the moment the VM profile has to - a priori - be setup for either wireless or wired. no ability to change inside XP (only virtual network adapter) and no way to change VM profile without closing session. Suprised anyone who has used P would ask about that.

2) what are you talking about? full screen is not yet in beta releases.
that's running VM window in full screen

3) connecting anything to USB and having it be recognized in VM XP session. like a hard drive.

4) sounds is provisioned but stutters. developers know about it. read version notes.

as for the rest of the comments, i think all of us happily stay away from what you clearly have recently had to drink, smoke or ingest...
let's keep the responses to the serious useful kind, shall we.

Bug fixing should go without saying. These guys are doing a fine job.

If the guest OS has an internal router (server 2003, win2k server, etc.) several NICs in the emulation would be convenient. Even for workstation OSs, more than one NIC might allow connection to more than one segment and would be handy. Not a big deal for me though.

Ummm -- obviously. If VPC can do it, Parallels can (and should, IMO)

This should be full USB pass through of whatever the hardware supports, and is critical for me.
There is a security tradeoff here with USB storage, which could be resolved with a startup preference, or Parallels could just say USB is full pass through but have a startup preference to disable it -- sort of like VPC.

- Sound capability
Umm... it's there, and will surely be improved by release.

- More reliable recognition of CD/ROM and other devices
CD/DVD should be pass through so that if the guest OS understands the drive, it will read, write, make coffee, or whatever else the hardware will do. In addition, an emulated drive would be handy (startup preference) with a standard interface (pick a model).

This is a cute idea, and could be just a VM startup script I guess so it doesn't have to do anything but start a specific VM and pass a command. More than that seems overkill to me.

This seems to me to be a whole lot of work because it requires hooking host OS internals. Starting the VM first isn't such hard work now, is it?

That would go along with full screen mode. VPC does it. Using the entire screen for the guest OS seems like a no-brainer of a desired feature.

Making printing work seamlessly when drivers are unavailable for the guest OS by emulating a handful of specific printers might be opening Pandora's box but would be nice. Making network printers work might already happen -- I haven't tried it yet since I'm waiting for MacBook delivery, but is definitely needed.

One more thing: Allowing the Mac OS disk(s) to appear as additional disks to the guest OS (as VPC does) allowing XP (for example) to access the Mac startup disk as if it were a windows disk would make my life a whole lot easier. If VPC can do it, Parallels can do it, right?

FWIW, I can't wait to see the next release with (hopefully) USB passthrough working.

We do live in exciting times, don't we? :)

I had 3 or 4 today as well... I think it is when more serious work is going on...

For instance... I use a PeeCee to hang 4 USB printers off of in our office.

I enable windows-printer-sharing to share the printers amongst 5 PCs and 3 Macs.

However, when I have Parallels loaded, and try to Print from the Mac to the PeeCee printer... only when Parallels is loaded, I will get Panics.
