Yesterday I accidentally clicked agree on a popup from toolbox that asked to access materials in my desktop folder and since then *all* the items in the folder and on my desktop have entirely disappeared and are no longer visible/accessible. I've tried rebooting the computer, reinstalling the OS neither of which worked, and contacted Apple support and they couldn't help me so I'm reaching out to see if anyone can help me get my desktop documents back again. I'm a PhD student and all of my materials were saved to my desktop so I'm in a bit of a panic and would really appreciate any help you're able to offer. Thank you!
Hi, NatashaN1, Probably I have the same problem. Other thread of this forum is dealing a similar problem and might help you. https://forum.parallels.com/threads/desktop-icons-into-hidden-files.365270/ My files on desktop were also hidden and accessed by desktop folder in Finder with entering command + shift + . in the window. See you finish your PhD job...
Hello, same problem here so I cannot use Parallels Toolbox. If I start the app then all my files and folders from my desktop disappears. I need to go to terminal and desktop folder and then type command "chflags nohidden *" and then it will give access to all my desktop items. One additional thing is that remove Parallels Toolbox from you login items as if it starts then you loose once more your visibility to your desktop items. Files and Folders are there, but they are just hidden. Only bad thing here is that I cannot use Parallels Toolbox anymore Macbook pro 14", Apple M3 Pro chip, sonoma 14.6.1
To see the hidden files on your desktop press command+shift+. Press them once more and they will be once more hidden. If you want to change them so that you will see them once again open terminal type : ls ~/desktop then type : chflags nohidden * then make sure that you don start parallels toolbox and you will be fine or if you do then redo the steps 1,2 and 3.
