...and another thing! I cannot figure out at all how to make the parallels non-full screen window to be the 1440x900 resolution of my 15" macbook pro screen while running Redhat Linux. No combination of setting it in the edited Desktop setup, the Gnome system settings, or direct editing of the /etc/X11/ XF86config file to 1440x900 will make it actually adjust. Any ideas?

Probably the easiest way, avoiding screwing around with the X config file, is to enable Remote Desktop on your linux VM and connect with vncviewer to display 0 from Mac.

Edit: Actually, I don't think that will set the screen resolution to what you want. Instead, start a vncserver with geometry 1440x900 to port 1, and modify .vnc/xstartup to display your desktop.

If you open the Configuration editor of Parallels Desktop by clicking on the Guest OS item in the main PD window, then click on Video in the Resource column, you can then add custom screen resolutions. Leastwise it works for the Windows guest.
