audio problems with Vista upgrade

Hi all,

I just went thru the difficult/bumpy road of installing Vista Ultimate over Xp on my MacBook core 2Duo with 1 GB RAM using Parallel sotware.

Two issues: same damn ACPI error mssg. several times, then I simply asked Parallel to install a new OS and did not enter the product key and it did install, now that I go back (as suggested in forum) to reinstall Vista within Vista, as soon as I enter the key it gets stuck.

Help Please!

Also have bad audio in Vista:( any ideas?

How can I turn off extras in Vista to boost performance?

I am not an expert user and thought this would be a lot easier, love my mac but need the damn Windows for couple of work related softwares.

I will be upgrading to max RAM possible, 2 GB in few days.

I would appreciate any comments,

audio is a known prolem that has ben discussed here many times.

you can turn off the themes and desktop wallpapers in the display settings in control panel.
 
thanks, now i can't bring up either one of the Win OS's, is there any way to uninstall and reinstall them?

Why wont they come up, does any errors appear?

To un-install a parallels virtual hard disk you need go to your parallels preferences and see where your hard disks are located then go to this place and delete the folder ie go to:

/Users/USERNAME/Library/Parallels

And in that delete the folder WIndows XP / Vista or whatever you called it :)

thanks, I was able to uninstall Parallel and delete Vista folder, so it seems like the beta Parallel is my next attempt to install Vista. As I said before, Vista installs without a problem if I don't enter the product key, but once i go back to re- install Vista within Vista and enter key it says it does not have enough disk space for installation files, i think because the original Vista is taking space. I wonder if i can increase the HD size dedicated to the windows?
can it be done?

Def use the latest parallels beta (RC3) did you use the quick installer to install Vista ?

The parallels installer in RC3 allows you to enter your Vista product key from the get go so no tricky configuration hacks

Also how much space are you giving Vista?

I think it reserves 16 GB ( which runs short during 2nd install), but it does it automatically, yes I use the express installer in P to install Vista,
I have now managed to install Xp again, if I use the RC3 will I loose the xp?
my god, I had no idea what I was getting into

ok here is a quick lesson:

Parallels can be upgraded without losing any VMs otherwise no-one would ever update their software.

Vista requires 15gb to install so you will need to set it to between 30-40gb if you want to use it properly.

Avoid using the quick installer for Vista as even the parallels crew are not saying they officially support it.

Its very straight forward to install Vista as a VM the normal way it just asks you a few more questions but nothing you need to worry about.

The idea of the quick installer is so you only have to enter a few bits of info and the installer will do the rest, it will take about 45mins depending on your hardware to install and configure everything.

ok no express install so which option do I choose to install vista also in previuos attempts as soon as i enter the vista product key everything goes wrong, if i don't it seems like it does install and I can use it, hate Microsoft,
and one more thing please instruct of how to select 30-45 GB HD space,
