How do I bring an Avatar in place?

I uploaded a profile picture but I suppose thats not the avatar? (where does THAT show?)
EDIT AVATAR doesnt show an upload option or checkbox for profile picture.


To browse the forum I use Ffox on OS-X.

 

please dont allow avatars.. what a waste of bandwidth.. its a support forum, not myspace.

It would be much easier to follow conversations if everyone talking did not look identical. Custom avatars would be nice. Alternatively, maybe allow avatar customization to some degree, even if only something like picking your own colors...?
