Bluetooth OBD2 dongle used to work but doesn't now..

I must have spent about 45 minutes this morning trying my best to get this silly bluetooth code scanner to go -- which I've used on-n-off over the past ~4 years without issue til now. I'll admit that I've not used it in probably a year.

The Mac can pair with it just fine and connect but Parallels keeps the connection only for a brief time and then shows it as being "paired" and the Mac at that point is disconnected. I eventually gave up. I'm running the latest Parallels 17.1.2 standard edition.. Is the bluetooth code different in the Pro or higher editions than what I've got? Any ideas on maybe something I can try? I'm out of ideas..
