Boot camp problems w/Mouse-Keyboard

I just bought Parallels 7 (still waiting to hear when I'll get my upgrade to 8) and I am trying to get my boot camp partition to work. I was able to boot up to boot camp in OSX Mountain Lion but when it comes time to log into Windows to complete the tools installation the mouse and keyboard won't work. No mouse, no keyboard means not being able to log in to complete the tools installation. How have others gotten around this?

So you've got booting into Boot Camp working, correct?

Then, you're creating a new virtual machine (VM) in Parallels, pointing to the Boot Camp (BC) volume, right? Then, when you start the new VM, you can't mouse in it or type in it. In the PD window, do you get the little message in the lower-left hand corner saying to push control-option to release the mouse and keyboard?
