Build History and Actual Version Numbers

The following relates to Parallels Desktop for Mac

I would like a list (or be pointed in the right direction to an existing one) of all build numbers that were released as non-beta along with which version that build belongs to.

As far as I can see there is no clear way to tell what version a build is.

The support article on this topic suggest looking in the about window for the "version" but all it gives is the build number.

I am also looking for a feature comparison between "version 2" and "version 3". A chart would be nice.
 
I just checked the packages I have. The release notes PDF is only present in the newest download from the website. It states it is 3.0.

The previous builds do not have release notes in the packages.

The following would be great if made available on the website....
1) Each version and build numbers associated with that version and their release date.
2) A feature comparison between versions.
3) A nice chart format would be good (some of us are managing more than just one machine with a Parallels license and this information would be very handy).
 
I second jzimmerman's request. The dmg packages do not contain any information like that. I am running build 3120 "Release Candidate", but nowhere in the documentation, including the dmg, des it say if it is version 1, 1.x, 2, 2.x, 2.5, ... and nowhere in the "about". I looked at the retail CD and box that I bought before installing 3120, and it doesn't state any version # either. It would be helpful to know what version I have so I know what I can upgrade to. It would also be helpful to know what new features, and what fixes I would get by upgrading to another build.

I have seen lists of new features in 3.0, but it doesn't say what in 3120 has been fixed by 3.0. Frankly, I don't plan to go to 3.0 until it looks like it has been stabilized, but from reading this forum, it sounds like it's not there yet. But I am considering going to 3214. But since 3120 has been stable with just a few annoyances, I only want to go to 3214 if I knew what benefits I would see.

Other software companies, big and small, list what fixes and features are included in patch releases, service packs, or whatever they call a release in between major versions. Surely the list is known internally, just publish it.
 
I would like to bump this again to add a couple of things....

Some of us are working in an environment where we are managing multiple Parallels installations. Currently there is no easy way to walk up to a machine and check which version of Parallels is running. Only the build number.

A cross reference page on your site would help.

The vagueness regarding features, versions and bug fixes has all been pretty frustrating. We are currently testing VMWare Fusion and will be deploying for some users soon.

Part of a viable solution for us is ease of maintenance and documentation. The retail boxes we have for version 2 do not even state what version is being purchased.
 
That would be great of someone outside of SWsoft actually cared enough to create and host the information, but this is really something that should be available directly from the horses mouth.

Little things like this is what adds value to a product. Not providing it degrades a product.
 
That is true, but this way we could also have a 'known bugs' part. I am not a Parallels basher by any regard, but it would help for IT people who could log-in to see a list of known bugs.

It would be nice if Parallels had a list, it could give us a place to start (we, of course, make reference that we based it off of Parallels' list, although it is a 3rd-party wiki, and not everything said is endorsed by Parallels, yadda yadda).
