Can I create links to Mac desktop?

Is it possible to create links (AKA Alias on Mac) from items on my Windows desktop (i.e. folders, files etc.) to my Mac desktop? When I create a link in Windows and move it from the Windows desktop to the Mac desktop it shows up there as .lnk document, but doubelclicking on it in Mac, tells me there is no program that can open this document.
 
What you are after are associations between Mac files and Windows applications, I believe. If so then you will find in the archives from some days ago one person's solution. I've not tried it and have no interest, but it's worth looking up. Use the search tool for associations, icons, applications - sorry I don't recall specifics from that thread.
