Can I do this? (just a little :confused: )

I just got a new Mac 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme, 2GB memory, 500GB hard drive. I am thinking of using a boot camp partition 100 GB XP partition so that my husband can use it. I have parallels on my macbook pro so that I can run ms only software, and I love it. Can I. Install (move over a copy of parallels) to the Mac os side? I have 3 keys for parallels 3. only 1 key for 2.5. I would like to move/copy my original vm it works great, and I have all the software installed that I use. But I also want a boot camp partition for my husband to use, can I do this?

A Bootcamp partition does not have to be used with Parallels. That is the way my MBP is configured. Just don't go through the Parallels process that links it to the Bootcamp installation.

I would like to have on the same computer Parallels and Bootcamp but not together. I would like to use a Bootcamp partition (for my husband) and also Parallels for me (I would get most of the hard drive). I really want to move/copy my already configured vm from macbook to the imac.

Boot Camp and Parallels can run completely independently. The confusion arises because Parallels can, optionally, run the copy of Windows it finds on a Boot Camp partition - so you can use the same installation of windows in either Boot Camp or Parallels. Since you are quite happy having two Windows installations then there is no need to open that particular can of worms.

Just to be clear, for what you want, you should not choose the "Use Boot Camp" option in Parallels.

That should just work - locate the folder containing the VM files (.pvs and .hdd files - some extra files and folders on Parallels V3), copy that across and double-click the .pvs file to start it the first time.

Whether you have enough MS Windows Licenses to do this legitimately (sounds like you'll end up with 3 windows installations - 2 on the iMac, one left on your old MacBook) is between you and Microsoft.

OK. So, itsdapead, it sounds like you might know the answer I need. I afraid I may need to open that can of worms.

I have a VM that is working nicely for me. Since Parallels can work with a Boot Camp partition as well as a VM .hdd file I would like to move my existing VM to Boot Camp. This seems like the best of both worlds to me - a virtual PC to run apps from within OS X from time to time AND... a "real" Windows PC if/when I need it...

I recently repartitioned the drive on my MBP 15" to include a partition for Boot Camp. I have installed Boot Camp & Windows XP & it is working just fine.

Is there some way (other than manually copying/installing) to migrate the whole shebang from the virtual machine to the boot camp partition?

My goal is to have exactly what I have now, but on the Boot Camp partition - so I can delete and reclaim the disk space used by the VM .hdd file.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Bootcamp is only expiring in the sense that the beta is expiring. It is assumed that Bootcamp release 1 will be included with Leopard, yes?
