Can Parallels Desktop .pvm file stored on NAS?

I am planning to buy Parallels and was wondering if someone can confirm if I can store .pvm file on NAS and then access that on my MAC to run Windows Guest OS? Because .pvm file gets huge (about 60GB) and I am running out of disk space I was wondering if it would be possible to store this file on NAS.

Yes, it's possible, but might be rather slow depending on the bandwidth you have with the NAS, if it's a gigabit wired connection, no problem, if it's wifi, forget it.

This because the network bandwidth will be your bottleneck, instead of the read and write speed of your hard drive your are replacing that for the network speed.
I would suggest storing your Documents on the NAS and share the folder over the network and keep the VM in a speedy drive (internal or external via USB 3/Thunderbolt/Firewire) if you are not using a gigabit network.

Thanks for prompt response. If I am running Parallels over NAS how does it handle the dropped connections? In case the network connection drops how well does it affect my Windows machine which was running?

That's why I said if it's wifi forget it, not just because of the bandwidth, the VM would likely freeze whenever it has to fetch something from the disk and it has to wait, it's easy to understand that this scenario is the complete opposite of the reliable connections internal disks have.
 
NO WAY to open a complete VM package copied from a lacal HD to a NAS

Hi i've tried in all ways to open a complete VM package (that has all the right files in the pvm bundle)through a GIGABIT ETHERNET connected NAS...MAYBE IS A PROBLEM OF PERMISSIONS (error id 15195) ???
I've tried everything ...even changing manually the permissions through batchmod software..but the INVALID PACKAGE ERROR stop me always.....any suggestion?
