cannot find neccessary drivers to configure bootcamp

i had to errese and reinstall my bootcamp partition and now i'm getting this error in parallels when i try to boot up the bootcamp drive

"Parallels Desktop cannot find necessary drivers to configure your Boot Camp partition. Please refer to Help> Parallels Desktop Help> Using Boot Camp Windows XP Installation for troubleshooting."


i had parallels running great the other day after about a week of messing with it. i've installed 3170. i think i remember seeing the above error previously but i don't remember how i fixed it.

i've tried changing the windows type from xp to other because i remember that working for me with some problem last week, but it didn't help. i know i have to boot in xp to install parallels tools, but i can't get it to boot.

any ideas?

i tried errasing the vm

and, errasing the vm and uninstalling/reinstalling Parallels


i still get the same error message.
could something be wrong with my boot camp partition?
i don't see why parallels would have any opinion about the boot camp partition...

anybody konw what its looking for? which drivers its looking for on bootcamp?
 
after wiping my whole drive and reinstalling os x in an effort to backtrack to 3120 and get this thing working again, i ...

yes! only after wiping the whole drive. reinstalling both systems with boot camp and installing parallels did i realize the problem



THE PROBLEM IS PARALLES WONT WORK WITH BOOT CAMP UNLESS:
you have a file called sp2.cab in your c/windows/driver cache file



i had totally forgotten about this step and thus waisted a bunch up time. but it looks like i'll be back up and running soon. if you've installed xp with a slipstream disk then you're likely missing this file. if you don't have it you can download it from a link on this forum somewhere which i did first. but this time, i tried another trick i've read about here, just duplicate the driver.cab and rename it sp2.cab

now parallels boots the partition and i can install parallels tools.
 
Yes you are right about the SP2.cab deal. Thanks for the tip about renaming driver.cab! Worked nicely for me just now.
