This error message comes up when trying to start a VM when connected to Windows XP Professional through Remote Desktop. I have tried setting sound "Device Status" to disabled but it still gives the error.
You may try removing this device from configuration. Parallels doesn't seem to be able to work with sound via remote desktop session. Just click Edit, find the sound device and click remove.
