I'm using Parallels 4.0 on a new 13" Macbook Pro. I'm trying to install Ubuntu 8.04.2 as the guest OS. I have the OS on a CD. When I go through the installation process using the "Real CD", it appears to work properly: the guest OS is recognized as Ubuntu Linux and the guest starts up and is operable. However, when I shut down the OS, quit Parallels, and eject the CD, then start up Parallels, then the guest OS, I get the Ubuntu desktop, but then one of two things happens -- though I'm not sure exactly what I did in my numerous attempts to cause one or the other: 1. Trying to open an app like Terminal just spins for a minute, then quits without showing me anything. 2. I get a message saying to insert the CD. Apparently, Parallels is setting up a VM but using the CD as the location of the OS. How can I get Parallels to install the guest OS on the hard drive so it can be used without the CD? -P.
