can't connect to internet - 3.0 / XP Pro / Intel iMac / Comcast

Hi -

I'm running 3.0 on my brand new iMac / OS 10.10
I had no problem using the Windows Express assistant installing an XP Pro VM on my hard drive.
Problem is, I'm having NO luck trying to connect to the web with IE in Windows.

My network preferences on the Mac indicate the VM is connected with the Parallels Network Adaptor

but I can't connect - I tried running the Network Diagnostic routine in the IE Tools menu and all that it said was that there "might" be a problem with my modem or router and to unplug the modem, plug it in and then wait 3
minutes before continuing - no luck

I also tried playing with the Lan connection settings in Tools by setting it "Detect connections automatically" etc...nothing

I just don't know enough about windows to diagnose further...
I am using a cable modem (Comcast) and I'm thinking it may be changing the Mac's IP address(??)


Anyhow : : : any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

btw: I've had the same issue with 3 different versions of XP

Hello,

please do the following:
First of all make sure that the virtual machine network adapter is enabled, then run Parallels.
Click the Network Adapter link in the main configuration window to open its settings.
Make sure that the Enabled.
Under the Emulation section select the Bridged Ethernet option and choose Default Adapter or any other Mac network connection interface that is connected to the network.
Click OK to close Configuration Editor.

If Bridged Networking isn’t suitable for you, try to change the VM network settings to Shared Networking.

If your network isn't working properly still, please look into this article, step three. May be after that your network will work.

If not, make me know please.

as per the article, I configured the emulation mode to "Host Only"
enabled Internet Sharing of the en2 Ethernet Adaptor on my Mac, restarted my computer, and it worked!
Windows has begun periodically restarting itself now 'though (saying that it detects a problem and is shutting down to avoid damage), and I believe that that is related to the new network configuration > > > oh well, at least I'm moving forward.
