Can't connect to XP computers on network from Windows 7

I installed Windows 7 Home Premium in a separate virtual machine. I have XP Home Edition running fine in a virtual machine, and it connects without problem to all other XP machines on my home and office networks, sometimes asking for a name and password (on home network), other times just connecting without asking.

I finally got Windows 7 to recognize the other computers by setting Configure>Hardware>Network Adapter 1 to bridged networking. The computers show up as connected to the network, but when I try to connect to any of the XP computers I get an error message "{Computer name} is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The endpoint format is invalid."

I made sure file and printer sharing is enabled on all computers, and the workgroup on all machines including Win 7 is "HOME". I tried connecting to the other computer by typing the URL //192.168.0.100 that is the DHCP assigned address for the machine, but it comes up "not found".

please try to switch between Default Adapter and Ethernet in Bridged Networking mode. I have just tried to reproduce the issue you described, but couldn't - connection from Win 7 VM to Win XP shares worked fine.

I am using Parallels 5.0.9220 with Snow Leopard and Windows 7 and am having a similar problems.
There are 2 XP computers on my work network that I can access and 2 that I can see but cannot access.
I get the same error - you might not have permission to use this network resource... endpoint format is invalid.
As far as I can tell there is no difference in the settings between the 4 XP computers.
I also have an XP virtual machine installed and it is able to access all 4 computers.
I tried changing the network adapter to bridged default, ethernet and airport with no luck.
 
Am having the same problem with Window 7 Pro. Can connect to the XP computers in my office network but when I try to connect to my Windows 2003 server acting as a file server I get the same error message. I could connect in Windows 7 RC1 in Vmware Fusion under the bridged network setting. The Windows 7 virtual machine is set to the same Workgroup as the file server and the other xp computers.
 
I have the same problem, in both bridged and default adapter mode of networking. (MacBook Air, Snow Leopard 10.6.3, Win 7 Pro: other computers also Win 7 Pro).

I can connect from the other computers to this one but not vice versa. Clicking on one of the networked computers does not ask me for an account name as it does with the vanilla Win 7 machines. Parallels must be stopping this from happening or misinterpreting the signals it gets from the networked computers.
 
Just checked. I am able to map to a shared drive on one of the other machines, so mapping \\homer\J_Drive to J drive on the Win 7 VM works ok. Strange that that works but cannot connect directly to the machine. Ah well, this is enough to get the job done.

Back again. After mapping to the shared drive, I can now click on the machine itself and get access to it. Weird! Problem solved, if by a very indirect route.
