I'm running a Mac Mini with Mac OS 1.4 and Parallels 3.0. I've been trying to use a Canon i350 inkjet printer. This prints fine from the Mac desktop, but I cannot get it to print from Vista. I've installed the i350 Canon driver on Vista. Please help.

Please read Users Manual pages 133 to 136. There are several options for you that will work.

Hi Purplish, thanks for the suggestion; but before I posted I'd already worked through every printing reference I could find in the manual several times (USB Printers: Setting Up a USB Printer. Also USB devices: ...setting up printer, using in virtual machine. Also PRINTING: ...in Windows, with Bonjour. Also PRINTER: parallel port emulation, setting up in virtual machine, setting up with Bonjour). Still no printing even though the printer works fine from the Mac window. I must be missing something. Can you suggest a systematic approach to troubleshooting this problem? Thanks. Bill

Have you tried sharing the printer from Mac OS X and then, connecting to it using its network share point from your VM?

    From an old thread:
I would recommend the following for the Bonjour solution:

Make sure USB Autoconnect feature is turned off (i.e. not automatically attaching printer as USB

Also make sure that Printer Sharing is enabled in OSX. (System Preferences/Sharing/)

Uninstall the printer drivers from Windows, using the Windows Add/Remove Programs function.

Make sure the printer drivers are working properly when you print under OSX. If you have to reinstall the drivers in OSX, reboot. Also be sure to recycle the printer - i.e. turn it off then on again.

Reboot the VM. Run the Bonjour printer wizard and select the generic postscript driver. If the Bonjour Print Wizard offers you the specific driver for your printer, it is OK to take it. I have an HP7310 and Bonjour found the specific driver so I did not have to use the generic postscript driver.

However, this seems to work only if you have not tried to install drivers on XP, and just use whatever is already there. When I tried to use the XP Driver install CD from HP, it just gummed up the OSX drivers so they didn't work either.

    Hello
    Did you try this?
    Required Steps:
1.Stop your Windows VM if it's running.
2.Open VM Configuration Editor (Parallels Desktop menu - Edit - Virtual Machine)
3.Add Parallel Port Printer to the VM Configuration: click "Add" - select "Parallel Port", hit Next - select "Use a printer" - select the printer you have available in the Mac OS.
4.Make sure that you are able to print using that printer from the Mac OS side.
5.Start Windows and try printing some document using "HP Color LaserJet 8500 PS" (it's generic driver that's being used for printing from the Virtual Machine to any Mac OS compatible printer).

I followed Purplish's suggestions precisely. It did not print, but FYI I received the following alert message in the VISTA VM: There are one or more conflicting settings. One of the conflicting settings is: Accessory Output Bin: Not Installed; Output Bin: Stacker Bin. Then a choice of either "Restore my previous settings" or "Keep this setting, and I will change it later. Don't you just HATE the obscure error messages in Microsoft software. Long live the Mac!

Happily, Ankou's recommendation worked!!! THANK YOU! :)
