Can't get WSL2 running: PD Pro 17, Windows 11 guest OS, Intel, Parallels Hypervisor

I've been searching on the subject of running WSL2 on a Windows 11 guest OS with a macOS 12.1 host. I'm confused about whether this is even possible.
Apparently the Apple Hypervisor won't work, but I've switch to the Parallels Hypervisor. I have the nested virtualization option available, and I have selected it.
I'm running on an Intel iMac, not an M1 system.
I've enabled WSL, and installed Ubuntu 22.04. But all I get when I try to start Ubuntu is the error "Something went wrong".
Am I missing something, or am I simply trying to do the impossible?
