Can't Install Windows 98

Hello,

I have the build 4560, and I can't get windows 98 to install. I have tried the auto method provided by paralells and that fails. So I also tried to boot from CD and run fdisk/format manually. It showed that I had 2 fixed disks and it was working on the second one. I dont know why there would be 2 fixed disks. I disabled the floppy and still 2 fixed disks.

Is it possible to download older copies of parallels?

Any help will be appreciated.

Have you checked your VM settings to make sure you haven't inadvertently created two hard disk images?

If you haven't tried these steps, what happens when you do?

If you try creating a fresh VM do you still get 2 partitions? If so, have you tried using fdisk to remove all partitions and then just create a single partition and format it?

It is a legacy program. I do not want to depend on Windows anymore so I am trying to install the smallest least resource dependent version that will work and run a few legacy programs.

The reason I use a Mac is because I think it provides the best user experience. If I wanted to upgrade all my programs and OS's I would probably be doing it on a PC not a Mac.

But... That is all beside the point. I tried everything suggested and am still not able to get Win98 to boot. Here is an outline of what I have done.

Scenario 1 (auto install)
1. Start with a fresh VM
2. It boots from the CD fine starts the install
3. After setup inits the disk it asks to reboot (at this point the screen goes black and the system hangs) So I hit ctrl-alt-del and it reboots, but says it can't find a boot device.
4. The only way to proceed is to change the cd to ide0:0 and the hd to ide0:1 then it boots starts setup and gives a division by zero error.

Scenario 2 (manually install)
1. Start with a fresh VM

5. Next I proceed to format and move the win98 folder over and install

So back to my original question... Can I get an earlier copy of parallels. I have done this before successfully and there may be a bug in the most recent version of parallels.
