    I have discovered that if I insert a DVD or CD while Windows/Parallels is running, the contents of the disk is unreadable. Windows seems to recognize that a disc has been installed, but no files are visible. I have to restart Windows to get it to display the files. I'm sure it's a configuration issue although I am running (as far as I know) a default Parallels configuration and a default Windows configuration.

    Anyone got a suggestion as to why this is happening and how to fix it?

    Hi LeslieM, did you try to disable smart mount for DVD volumes?
    And Problem Report ID would be helpful.
    Regards.

    I will try disable the Smart Mount. Where do I find that? I am not spotting in the preferences.

    I don't see any Problem Report ID number. Where would I see the ID number?

    When you are observing an empty dvd drive in windows VM
    go to menu Help->Report problem...
    And please share it's number.

    You can read how to obtain problem report ID here http://kb.parallels.com/en/9058.

    Thank you for that direction. I'll get that for you shortly. **UPDATE** "A problem report with the ID number 15690437 has been sent..." (Sorry about my earlier confusion. I thought the error code came up earlier in the process and I was to fast on the mouse button when the submission competed message came up.)

    Where do I find the option to disable "Smart Mount"? **UPDATE** I have double and triple checked. The "Smart Mount" option is not available as indicated in the KB here. Running Parallels v 7.0.15095
