I have Parallel Desktop 4.0 for Mac (Build 4.03844) installed on my iMac.

I got prompted the following messages everytime I go to Help->Check fo Updates

"Updating failed as there was an error reading the updates description file."

    followed by

"The application Parallels Updater quit unexpectedly"

Any advise how to overcome this problem?

I have successfully installed the 3846 build. Able to start my virtual machine.
However I am still unable to run manual update when I select "Check for Updates"

    Failure to update

I'm having a similar problem. Going through the update routine in 'help', it downloads the update, checks to see if it can install the program, asks me to agree to the T&C, asks if I will participate in the survey, then just goes away without updating. I tried deleting the downloaded file & re-downloading, but get the same issue.

Now, about every 10 minutes, I get the dialog box telling me that an update is available. Of course all the above happens all over again.

I tried your suggestion by using the link you provided, got the confirmation email link and when I clicked on it, I get:

    403 - Forbidden

    Any other ideas?

Thanks for the complete link David. I downloaded it & it installed a "parallel" installation in addition to my previous one. The plus is that it also contains my virtual Windows that was set up in the previous one. So I would suppose I can delete the older version of Parallels?

Randy, yes. I delete my "older" version and all is well. However, verify that all is well with the new install before deleting the older one.

    regards, David

Round and round attempting the update

The Parallels Desktop update mechanism has identified that I need an update but this continually fails after offering me all of the prompts, Continues, OKs, password verifications, etc. It just disappears after apparently having done nothing only to then return minutes later.

I am right now manually downloading the update but it would be nice if we could have some clue if there is something that needs to be fixed on our end. It is our system or is it the Update mechanism that needs fixing. Will I too end up with a 2nd installation rather than an updated Parallels? If so, what is the recommended solution to that?

Go to the downloads folder and you will see the .dmg file created by Parallels. Double click on it and the update will install. Follow the prompts.

I have the same problem. It seems ok when I re-installed it. However after a while, the same error happens again.

Is there a more permanent way to resolve this?
