Color Calibration

I am using Parallels 3.0/XP. I am concerned about color calibration in XP. I only get a default profile for my monitor under the "Displays" control panel.

What steps can be taken to try to obtain accurate color? Is it possible to use a device like the Spyder2 color calibrator (hardware/software) to obtain an accurate color profile?

Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this issue.
 
Parallel Tools installed

I did install Parallel Tools.

When I bring up the Parallels Tool Center under "Video Driver Options" Status "Enabled".

please try to reinstall Parallels Tools.
Could you please go in Configuration Editor of your VM, 'Memory Options' tab and tell me the amount of Video memory set there?

to reinstall Parallels Tools please, do the following:
1. Launch your Windows XP guest OS .
2. Open Add/Remove programs control panel in Windows and remove Parallels Tools if present.
3. Reboot Windows XP guest OS .
4. Install Parallels Tools using "Install Parallels Tools " menu item in the Action menu of the Parallels Desktop application.
5. Reboot Windows.

You should right-click on the desktop of your Windows, select 'Properties', 'Settings' tab and check color settings there.

For Display:
Default Monitor on Parallels Video Driver, color quality: highest

click on the advanced button.

Adapter Type: Parallels Video Driver, 64 meg memory size
Monitor Type: Default Monitor

This is where I have a question. Is there any way for Parallels/XP to have a specific profile for my monitor. I have a Viewsonic vx2235wm. In other words; is the default profile adequate for accurate color?

It's not that I am creating super critical color work. I am just trying to get as close as I can.
 
Under Default Monitor Properties (in XP)

The Driver tab:

It gives the option to update the driver. Is this an option for Parallels VM users or should I leave it alone?

could you please specify your problem with the colour? What exactly the problem is? For example, the screenshot will help a lot.

I believe what he wants to do, is use a color profile that is specific to his monitor. If Windows did not detect (and it shouldn't, given the way Parallels installs its drivers) your monitor, you should be able to manually set it (given either windows has the color profile, or you can provide it.

You need install driver for your monitor and select the color profile for it. To do that:

1. Right click on Desktop and select Properties.
2. Display Properties window appears
3. Click Settings tab
4. Click Advanced button
5. Click Monitor tab
6. Click Properties button
7. Click Driver tab
8. Click Update driver button
9. Hardware Wizard window appears
10. Select "No, not this time" button and click Next button
11. Click "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next button
12. Click "Don't search. I will choose the drive to install." and click Next button
13. Uncheck "Show compatible hardware" button
14. Select your Monitor from a list or click Have a Disk button if not listed
15. Click Next button
16. Click Finish button
17. Click OK
18. Go to the Color Management tab
19. Click Add button and select the Color profile
20. Close all window by clicking Ok buttons

Is there a similar thread for Windows 7? I can go into the Color Management > Devices window and choose the profile I created with my profiling software but I can only see "Display: 1. Generic Non-PnP Monitor - Parallels Display Adaptor (WDDM)" but no options for a 2nd display. When I press the "Identify monitors" button, a number 1 only comes up on my external display. No "2" comes up on my MacBook Pro screen. I'm assuming I need to be able to see both so I can specify different motor profiles for each display, yes?
